Master Tara Rebele began training as a young child and joined the Blue Wave as a black belt in 1990 to further her development as a practitioner and athlete. A former competitor, she represented the Blue Wave at numerous state qualifiers, opens and invitationals, as well as at sanctioned national-level events, such as the U.S. National Championships and U.S. Collegiate Nationals, where she was a medalist in Olympic sparring. Master Rebele previously founded and operated a Blue Wave Taekwondo School in Athens, GA.
After relocating to Richmond, she instructed for a local program, where she taught all ages and levels, trained students for competition, implemented her program for young children, led Masters’ clinics, offered children’s camps and activities, and contributed to the development and production of other events, such as in-house tournaments. Master Rebele is pleased to begin offering a full program in the Kukkiwon, Chung Do Kwan style of Taekwondo that she practices and teaches, and she looks forward to sharing her passion, knowledge, and experience with students of all ages in the new Richmond Blue Wave Taekwondo School.
“I am very excited to offer an accessible, comprehensive Taekwondo program to members of the local community who wish to train and I am especially excited to bring the exceptional qualities of Blue Wave Taekwondo to students here in Richmond.”
“When I step onto the floor to teach, I not only step into my role as an instructor, I also become a student of my students. They teach me new things and new ways of approaching familiar things, so that while they are learning the art, I learn and grow as their instructor in the art. My students inspire me to be my best and to keep becoming better. Teaching expands me as a martial artist, and as a person.”
“I was very fortunate to have had such excellent instruction and role models in the art, and to have had opportunities throughout my career to learn from some of Taekwondo’s best programs, masters, coaches, and athletes.”

*Mighties Program
Ages 3-6
Mighties KickStart: Skill-building fun for 3-4 year-olds
Mighties: Beginner-Intermediate Level Mighties Taekwondo
Super Mighties: Intermediate-Advanced Level Mighties Taekwondo
The Richmond Blue Wave Taekwondo School’s exclusive Mighties Taekwondo program for children ages three to eight is specially designed to promote the development of the younger child’s motor skills, balance, strength, focus, and coordination. Through a progressive sequence of skill development in our success-based program, students “learn to earn,” marking each milestone with a new Mighty Stripe and building confidence with each success. Our unique character development curriculum complements students’ physical training, introducing the skills and qualities that make one mighty inside and out. Key concepts in safety, character, and leadership are introduced through age-appropriate games, stories, and experiential learning activities. The program’s holistic approach to student development means our students’ learning and growth is not limited to Taekwondo class. When you enroll your child in our Mighties program, you will know that every class, he or she is gaining valuable skills to lay the foundation for a lifetime of fitness, well-being, and personal achievement. Your child, on the other hand, will know that on their class day, Mighties get to come to the gym to learn Taekwondo with friends and have a lot of fun!
**Junior Program, Youth & Teen Programs
Ages 6+
Our programs for children and teens offer high quality Taekwondo training, expert instruction, and a holistic approach to student growth. All of our dynamic class options for youth and teen students provide a full hour of Taekwondo instruction and training. The programs for students in this age range also emphasize the development of personal character and the “way,” or virtue, of the art we practice.
Adult Program
We offer a full Taekwondo program with unlimited training for students over the age of eighteen. Our regularly scheduled offerings include classes targeted specifically to the unique training needs of adults at all levels, as well as a range of traditional, multi-level and mixed age classes. All of our classes provide an hour of progressive skill development and physical conditioning. Our comprehensive Taekwondo program for adults also includes personalized training, as well as special classes and clinics, open gym periods, and supplementary training sessions for overall strength and conditioning immediately following our evening classes (e.g., Mobility & Strength, Stretching for Flexibility).
